In my time at The Gazette — a 100 percent employee-owned, ever-evolving media company — I have been able to continuously learn through a number of community engagement- and innovation- focused projects:

Community engagement manager – Iowa Ideas: August 2016 – present
A major effort to connect Iowans and discover solutions to key issues. Responsibilities include: co-creating all programming for a series of symposiums and large conference, including topical research, communicating with speakers and session design; managing and editing all aspects of Iowa Ideas’ digital presence; and facilitating in-person community conversations.

Digital strategist and trainer, September 2015 – August 2016
Study trends in digital media and translate them into actionable policies for the Gazette’s staff of reporters and editors. Work with senior leaders to identify priorities. Closely monitor analytics to identify additional areas of opportunity.

Entrepreneurial journalist, We Create Here, September 2013 – September 2015
Founding member of an experimental team within a legacy media organization. Use in-depth reporting and digital presentation to tell forward-looking stories. Convene thought-provoking conversations among stakeholders.


1 MILLION CUPS Iowa City / Cedar Rapids

1 Million Cups is a popular weekly program to educate, engage and connect entrepreneurs. I recruit entrepreneurs to present, help them practice their pitch, market the program and manage all details of the event itself.
