Over the spring of 2011 I put a lot of thought into what the future of the Daily should be, as well as my future: I was debating whether or not to apply to be Editor-in-Chief. Although I ultimately decided not to apply (I wanted to try my hand at the Meredith Apprentice Program), I did complete an 11-page strategic plan for the Daily’s publication board, outlining what steps I thought the Daily should take going forward.
My plan had two main parts: How to make the Daily stronger as a publication, and how to make it a better, more educational work environment for the students involved. The former is typical fodder for strategic plans, but the latter, I think, makes my plan stand out.
(By the way, Jake Lovett ended up doing a great job as EIC).
